Exceedingly rare and absolutely spectacular amber & chrome desk clock, manufactured around 1930 by the Berstein Manufaktur of Königsberg (now Kaliningrad in the Russian republic)
This company started in the mid 20s manufacturing luxury items made only out of amber and chromed parts. Since they had the monopol on the amber production, only the fines stones were used in this production which was sold in the most exclusive stores throughout Germany. These products were not only remarkable for the quality of the craftmanship but also reflected the new principles of bauhaus design, mixing minimastic design with utmost elegance.
All pieces are faced with pieces of genuine amber, sized and polished, then assembled in cubes to form the base and surround of the clock and frame while hands and hour marks as well as the support plates are made out of chrome plated brass. |
